Royals miss chance Ryan Fitzpatrick Texans Jersey for Sale to to tie up AL Central

KC@CWS: Perez hits towering solo homer to left-center

CHICAGO — A day after ascending into postseason heaven, the Royals dropped back to earth on Saturday night with a 5-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox. The setback cost the Royals a chance to tie for the lead in the American League Central with Detroit after the Tigers lost to Minnesota.

However, Kansas City still could catch Detroit on the regular-season’s final day, but that would require a Royals win and a Tigers loss on Sunday. A tiebreaker would be played Monday at Detroit.

“We’ll see what happens,” said Royals manager Ned Yost. “Minnesota is doing a great job of playing Detroit and we’ve got [Yordano] Ventura on the mound and hopefully we can squeak out a win and Minnesota can have some magic one more time. And we’ll go to Detroit and settle it there.”

The Royals got one piece of positive news: They are guaranteed home-field advantage if they are in Tuesday’s Wild Card Game because Oakland lost at Texas.

Of course, they’d prefer a Central title because that would propel them beyond Wild Card status and the winner-take-all contest and put them in a best-of-five AL Division Series against Baltimore.

“It’s hard to believe that it’s the last game of the season tomorrow and we still have a chance to compete for the division,” Yost said. “It’s a great feeling.”

White Sox left-hander John Danks Ryan Fitzpatrick Texans Jersey for Sale pitched seven innings for the victory and his catcher, Josh Phegley, hit two home runs. Danks, in his career, is 7-0 with a 2.43 ERA against the Royals.

“Danks has just been excellent. Every time we face him, we’ve just really struggled offensively,” Yost said. “He’s kind of got our number right now, that dirty rat.”

Royals left-hander Danny Duffy, coming off six shutout innings of a win at Cleveland, this time lasted just one hitter into the third inning. He was tagged for four runs in the first two innings.

“I just didn’t have my best stuff would be the best way to put it,” Duffy said.

The game drew a sellout crowd of 38,160 to honor Paul Konerko and the start was delayed by ceremonies for the retiring White Sox star, but Duffy said that had no effect on his preparations.

“No, it didn’t at all,” Duffy said. “Hats off to Konerko. He had an amazing career and I think he deserves everything he gets — all the accolades and all the time spent giving him props. No, it didn’t interrupt me at all.”

Maybe the White Sox, though, were pumped up by all the pomp and circumstance. Their first inning began with three hitters up, three runs home.

Duffy walked Adam Eaton, who stole second and scored on Alexei Ramirez‘s single. Jose Abreu pounded a 2-2 pitch over the right-center-field fence for a two-run homer, his 36th of the season to establish a new White Sox rookie mark.

“I left it up a little bit,” Duffy said. “I tried to get it by him as I did two times previously in that at-bat and that time it just didn’t work. You could think about going offspeed there, he hasn’t hit my slider very well this year but, you know, hindsight is 20-20.”

In the second inning, Phegley got a Ryan Fitzpatrick Merchandise drive over the left-field wall, just barely past the glove of Alex Gordon, for a 4-0 lead.

When Abreu singled to open the White Sox third, Yost was quick to make a pitching change, starting a parade of five relievers. Duffy was through.

“He was struggling to command the baseball, he was struggling to Ryan Fitzpatrick NFL Football Uniform get ahead, he was leaving pitches up and it was just one of those nights,” Yost said.

Danks, though, was sharp. He gave up a single run in the third inning and then a solo home run to Salvador Perez in the seventh inning for a 4-2 score. It was Perez’s 17th this season but his first since Sept. 1 against Texas.

Phegley, however, immediately reclaimed that run in the bottom half. He led Youth Nike Houston Texans 14 Ryan Fitzpatrick Elite Navy Blue Team Color Football Jersey off with his second home run to left field, this time off left-hander Tim Collins.

“But we battled back and cut the deficit and had Ryan Fitzpatrick Jersey Texans some guys on in the late innings and just couldn’t get it done,” Eric Hosmer said.

The Royals got something going in the eighth against reliever Ronald Belisario. Alcides Escobar‘s walk and singles by Nori Aoki and Lorenzo Cain produced a run and it was 5-3.

Eric Surkamp relieved Belisario and got Hosmer to ground into a double play but only thanks to an artful turn by second baseman Carlos Sanchez. Jake Petricka relieved lefty Surkamp and got Billy Butler to ground out, stranding Aoki at third.

They Ryan Fitzpatrick Jersey stirred again in the ninth. Petricka retired with back problems after a leadoff walk to Gordon. Javy Guerra got two outs before Mike Moustakas lined an RBI single to put the Royals within one run. Escobar, though, grounded into the final out.

So it’s down to game 162. Will there be game 163, a title tiebreaker with Detroit?

“Baseball’s a crazy game,” Hosmer said. “A lot of crazy stuff can happen.”

Tigers on wrong Men’s Nike Houston Texans 10 DeAndre Hopkins Elite Battle Red Alternate Jersey end end of rout; magic number 1

MIN@DET: Ausmus on Tigers’ 12-3 loss to Twins

DETROIT — The American League Central is coming down to the last scheduled day of the regular season. A spot for the Tigers in the AL Division Series, however, essentially comes down DeAndre Hopkins Women’s Jersey to their ability to win one out of their next three potential games, involving three opponents, all at Comerica Park.

The Central-leading Tigers are hoping it doesn’t come down to that, either a division tiebreaker on Monday against the second-place Royals, who trail by one game, or the AL Wild Card Game on Tuesday. With a magic number of one over Kansas City, the Tigers can clinch a fourth straight division title on Sunday afternoon if they can beat the Twins with David Price on the mound. After Saturday’s 12-3 loss at home DeAndre Hopkins Football Uniforms to Minnesota cost the Tigers a chance to clinch, though, it’s getting repetitive for them, even.

Detroit has lost back-to-back games by a combined 23-7 margin to a team 17 games behind it in the division standings and with little more than a 70-win season on the line.

“If it was Aug. 1, it would feel great,” Twins manager Ron Gardenhire quipped about reaching the 70-win mark.

If the Tigers were a win away from clinching with a week to go, their feelings would be different, too. They haven’t lacked urgency, but they’ve lacked clean play at times.

“It’s frustrating, for sure,” manager Brad Ausmus said. “Today was almost a carbon copy of yesterday. A couple of defensive mistakes, we didn’t pitch well and you’re in such a deep hole that it’s tough to climb out of.”

“I wasn’t deandre hopkins youth jersey concerned at all going into the game today that something like that would happen again. I’m a little surprised by it, but again, we can’t do anything about it. We’ve got a game tomorrow that we’ve gotta win — and I mean, DeAndre Hopkins Shirts we’ve gotta win.”

The Tigers want the division title, and not just for the banner. A win on Sunday would allow them three days to rest and recuperate — especially important to outfielder Rajai Davis, who left Saturday’s game in the second inning with a pelvic sprain. It would also allow Ausmus to line up his rotation, DeAndre Hopkins Houston Texans Jersey for Sale for the most part, in one of several ways.

Saturday’s loss means Ausmus has to use Price on Sunday instead of lining him up for the postseason rotation. A loss on Sunday would force Ausmus to use Justin Verlander, another former AL Cy Young Award winner. Max Scherzer, who claimed last year’s AL Cy Young Award, looms for Tuesday’s start.

Saturday’s losing pitcher, Kyle Lobstein, has no such hardware. For four-plus innings, however, he gave the Tigers a chance before ground balls and bloopers doomed him in a six-run Men’s Nike Houston Texans 10 DeAndre Hopkins Elite Battle Red Alternate Jersey fifth inning.

It was a cruel fate for a 25-year-old left-hander who had become the unlikely hero of the Tigers’ rotation.

“I felt like I had the same stuff, same pitches,” Lobstein said. “I kept making good pitches in the fifth inning, too. Unfortunately, they got some hits.”

Lobstein took the mound for the fifth inning on DeAndre Hopkins Jersey Cheap a roll, limiting the Twins to two hits and a walk while allowing just three balls to be hit out of the infield. He induced another weak grounder to leadoff batter Eduardo Escobar. The bouncer gave Escobar enough time to beat Nick Castellanos’ throw to first, however, setting up Lobstein’s undoing.

“He looked good up until that point,” Ausmus said, “and then it all came unglued. Everything they hit seemed to find a place to land, and they kept pushing runners across the plate. It was just one of those nights for him. First four innings, he was clean. I don’t know what — I couldn’t tell you exactly what happened.”

Chris Herrmann’s blooper to center fell in front of Davis’ replacement, Ezequiel Carrera, who did not seem to get a good read on the ball. Carrera regrouped to catch Aaron Hicks’ liner, but Danny Santana’s grounder to first caught Miguel Cabrera between trying for the out at second or tossing behind himself to Lobstein racing for first.

With the bases loaded, Brian Dozier sent a ground ball through the right side, just out of the reach of second baseman Ian Kinsler, to tie the game at 1. Kinsler then robbed Joe Mauer of a single with DeAndre Hopkins Jersey a diving stop for the second out, but Herrmann scored to put the Twins up for good.

The killer runs, however, came on an Eric Fryer line drive that carried just over Kinsler’s outstretched glove on a leaping attempt. Two runs scored, and Lobstein left. Three consecutive singles off Phil Coke left Lobstein saddled with six runs on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Six more runs came home against the bullpen, including a four-run eighth off Robbie Ray.

“I understand why they’re booing,” Ausmus said of the crowd’s reaction. “We’re in a situation where we can clinch a division, and we give up 20-something runs over the course of two games. If I was sitting in the stands, I’d be booing, too.”

Ricky Nolasco (6-12) tossed six innings of two-run ball for the win, holding down Detroit’s offense for the second time in as many weeks.

Stras looks postseason-ready with six Women’s Nike Houston Texans Andre Johnson Limited New Pink Be Luv’d Jersey scoreless scoreless

MIA@WSH: Strasburg whiffs seven over six innings

WASHINGTON — If Saturday was any indication, right-hander Stephen Strasburg is ready for the National League Division Series. He pitched six shutout innings and helped the Nationals beat the Marlins, 5-1, at Nationals Park.

While an announcement hasn’t been made, Strasburg is expected to pitch Game 1 of the NLDS against the winner of the NL Wild Card game. It will be Strasburg’s first playoff appearance. He missed the 2012 postseason because he was on an innings limit after having Tommy John surgery two years earlier.

“I’m really excited,” Strasburg said about pitching in the playoffs. “I’m going to keep throwing and give it everything I have. … I’m going to get back to work and get ready for whenever I make the start.”

Strasburg (14-11) wasn’t limited in any way on Saturday. In fact, he pitched like a Game 1 starter, allowing two hits and striking out seven. The Marlins came close to scoring in the third Houston Texans Women’s Pink Jersey inning. They had Jeff Mathis on third with two outs, but Christian Yelich struck out looking to end the threat.

“Today is as good as he has been all month,” manager Matt Williams said about Strasburg. “Really good fastball — 96, 97 [miles per hour]. Changeup and curveball to go with it. He threw it where he wanted to. [He has been] just the same as he has been that last four or five starts.”

Marlins manager Mike Redmond acknowledged his team couldn’t touch Strasburg.

“It was a tough day for us, offensively. We didn’t get anything going, really,” Redmond said. “Just a couple of hits. Probably one hit was a little bit of a gift out there.”

During the month of September, Strasburg was nearly unhittable, going 3-1 with a 1.13 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 32 innings. Opponents had a .194 batting average against the right-hander during the month. Strasburg used both sides of the plate and had excellent fastball command.

“He feels great,” Williams said. “His strength is good. He is throwing the ball the way he wants it to. He is making pitches when he needs to. That’s typical Stephen of what we’ve seen all year long. I think he is pitching really well. He is ready for next week.”

Strasburg also helped himself with the bat in the second inning. With runners on first and third and Texans Pink Shirts one out, Strasburg bunted the ball toward Marlins right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, who threw Strasburg out at first base. But Bryce Harper hustled home after he saw the pitcher throw to first, and he slid in head-first just before the Women’s Nike Houston Texans 99 J.J. Watt Pink Fem Fan Fashion Jersey tag.

In Women’s Nike Houston Texans 23 Arian Foster Pink Be Luvd Fashion Jersey the fifth inning, Eovaldi found himself in trouble again, when Washington loaded the bases with no outs. Adam LaRoche grounded out, but Denard Span scored on the play.

Span had two hits in the game, tying him with Cristian Guzman for the franchise’s single-season hits mark (183), and breaking Guzman’s multihit game record with his 58th.

“I feel good. Christian Guzman was a [heck] of a player,” Span said. “I watched him coming up in the Minors with Minnesota. It’s just an honor to be mentioned with his name and to be mentioned in the same sentence as tying a record or breaking a record.”

Asdrubal Cabrera Houston Texans Pink Uniform broke the game open with a three-run double off Carter Capps in the eighth inning. Prior to Saturday, Cabrera was in a 9-for-51 (.176) slump with just four RBIs.

“[Cabrera] had been a little jumpy, not seeing the ball as well as he would like to, but he is a pro,” Williams said. “He has been there a Texans Pink Jersey time or two with the bases loaded. He has the ability to calm it down and get a good pitch to hit in that at-bat. It was a really meaningful base hit.”

After Strasburg left the game, Jerry Blevins and Tyler Clippard blanked the Marlins in the seventh and eighth, and Drew Storen allowed an unearned run in the ninth before sealing the win.

The Nationals improved their record to 95-66.

Six-run eruption helps O’s Whitney Mercilus Shirts eliminate eliminate Yankees

BAL@NYY: Orioles break out with a six-run 4th inning

NEW YORK — Any more concerns about the Orioles’ offense in late September?

Baltimore, which clinched the American League East Division on Sept. 16, has proved its recent lull was no more than a temporary dip with a combined 32 hits in Whitney Mercilus Jersey Cheap its last two games in the Bronx. On Wednesday, the Orioles used an 11-batter, six-run fourth inning to top the Yankees, 9-5, and officially eliminate New York from postseason contention.

“It seems as though when we hit home runs, we win a lot of ballgames,” outfielder David Lough said of the powerful O’s lineup, “but today showed that we’re capable of just coming up with hits and coming up with runs and getting [baserunners] in from scoring position.”

The O’s (95-63) remained 2 1/2 games behind the Angels, who also won Whitney Mercilus Football Uniforms Wednesday, for the best record in the AL. If the Orioles can overtake the Halos, they would guarantee themselves home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The sentiment in the clubhouse after the win was that the O’s didn’t take extra pride in knocking out New York.

“We’ve got an outside shot Whitney Mercilus Shirts of catching Anaheim,” manager Buck Showalter said. “But you don’t ever take some satisfaction out of [eliminating another team]. When we came in here the first time, earlier in the year, we knew — and here they are, in it with four, five games left to play. That’s quite a testament to them and the challenges that [manager] Joe [Girardi] and the staff and the organization have had with a lot of injuries. To stay this engaged this long was pretty impressive.”

Also impressive? The way the Orioles turned the tables on Yankees starter Shane Greene, who was dominant early and watched a three-run lead — and his outing — go by the wayside as the O’s bats woke up.

Ryan Flaherty, up with the bases loaded and one out in the fourth, put the Orioles on the board with a two-run double. He was followed one out later by Nick Markakis‘ two-run single, and Lough added a triple to score Markakis. Adam Jones‘ bunt single scored Lough for the sixth run of the inning.

“It’s important [to manufacture runs], especially in the postseason,” Flaherty said. “The weather’s cold, wind’s blowing in — kind of like today. There weren’t many people who were going to hit the ball through that wind.”

Orioles starter Bud Norris did his part to keep the Yankees in check, going six innings and allowing three runs on five hits. Norris, who improved to 9-1 with a 2.91 ERA against the AL East this season, struck out nine in the 95-pitch outing.

“Everybody talks about the AL East being the best division in baseball, and it elevates my game,” Norris said. “I go out there and pitch, and I’ve learned a lot from the guys here. I’ve gotten a lot of critiquing from [Chris] Tillman and other guys to help me get through Men’s Nike Houston Texans 59 Whitney Mercilus 10th Anniversary Elite Battle Red Alternate Jersey these things. I’m just going to go out there and compete. The numbers have been outstanding, but the victories are what it’s about — team victories for me and this group.”

After allowing one run in each of his first three innings, including homers by Stephen Drew and Chase Headley, Norris settled in and retired his final eight batters, then turned the ball over to right-hander Tommy Hunter. Hunter recorded one out in the seventh before a double prompted Showalter to tab lefty Brian Matusz to finish off the inning. Showalter wanted certain pitchers to work in back-to-back games, so in all, Baltimore used six pitchers, setting up righty Darren O’Day‘s fourth save.

Baltimore tacked on three more in the eighth inning on Lough’s Whitney Mercilus Texans Jersey sacrifice fly off reliever David Phelps and RBI singles by Jones and Nelson Cruz, who singled four times on the day. Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira cut into that lead with a two-run homer Whitney Mercilus Jersey off Brad Brach in the bottom of the frame.

Gray K’s 12, but A’s fall back into Brooks Reed Texans Shirts tie tie with KC

Gray fans career-high 12 over seven innings

OAKLAND — Sonny Gray‘s fierce 12-strikeout performance against the Angels on Tuesday night amounted to nothing but a 2-0 loss and a reminder that an inconsistent A’s offense is still very much a liability, one that could haunt this club in a potential playoff series, a la the last two postseasons.

The A’s must first get there, and could do so as soon as Thursday, with their magic number to clinch a playoff berth down to three with five to play, following Seattle’s defeat in Toronto. Tuesday’s loss, however, did drop the A’s into a tie for the top American League Wild Card spot with the Royals, who hold the tiebreaker and would host a Wild Card Game between the clubs if they finish the season with identical records.

Should Sunday’s Game 162 decide their fate, the A’s like their chances with Gray on the mound. That Brooks Reed Jersey Cheap he entered Tuesday with a 5.05 ERA over his last nine starts was of no relevance to those who know the pitcher and his ability to flash greatness at moment’s notice.

“That’s what he does,” said Stephen Vogt. “I don’t think anybody’s ever Brooks Reed Jersey worried about Sonny. I looked up in the fifth and he had 10 punchouts. Pretty remarkable.”

The righty’s 12 strikeouts, three more than his previous career high, were most by an A’s pitcher since Dan Haren tallied 12 against the Rangers on Aug. 27, 2006. Gray needed just seven innings to put them in his pocket, and he allowed only three hits — including Gordon Beckham‘s sixth-inning Men’s Nike Houston Texans 58 Brooks Reed Elite Navy Blue Team Color Jersey solo shot — with three walks on 98 pitches.

The Angels’ first run came in the second inning, and it was unearned. Erick Aybar singled, stole second and reached third on catcher Geovany Soto‘s throwing error, before scoring on a double-steal attempt. Gray proceeded to Men’s Nike Houston Texans 58 Brooks Reed Elite Away White Jersey strike out the side in the third, as he did in the first.

“That was terrific. He was up for it today,” manager Bob Melvin said of Gray. “When he came in the dugout, there was a look in his eye. He was going to get after it. Unfortunately, we didn’t give him any support.”

If this sounds familiar, it is.

“I’d say it’s one of the major themes of the last month and a half,” said Sam Fuld. “We’ve definitely had our opportunities, and we have to take advantage of that.”

The A’s, who scored 16 runs in their previous two games after totaling 19 in the 10 games before that, outhit the Angels, 7-3, but stranded eight runners. Vogt was responsible for six of them — enough for him to characterize it as “a small village of runners in scoring position.”

“I’ve got to come through when I have the opportunities,” he said.

“One or two more hits and it’s a different game,” said Melvin. “At-bats got better as the game went along, plenty of opportunities. One hit could have at least tied the game. Just couldn’t come up with it.”

This same problem plagued the A’s in each of their last two AL Division Series appearances, both against the Tigers, who handcuffed them with ease — each in Game 5, both of Brooks Reed NFL Football Uniforms them shutouts.

The A’s have already been shut out 11 times this season, seven times since the beginning of August, when their mesmerizing downfall began. They won three consecutive games against the Twins from Aug. 7-9, but have yet to win three in a row since.

“It’s tough to put a finger on it, really,” said Fuld. “I think, sometimes, the idea of momentum gets a little overblown. I think it’s just a day-to-day process, and we preach that.

“Every day is different, and I don’t necessarily think we expect, just because we did well offensively the last two games, that that would be the case tonight. Obviously we were hoping to, and we’d like to get that ball rolling, but we understand that it’s not Brooks Reed Merchandise a given.”

Added Vogt: “That’s baseball in a nutshell. It is frustrating, absolutely, but just because we didn’t have offense tonight doesn’t mean our offense isn’t good. I think we’re playing good baseball right now, we just didn’t get any hits when we needed them tonight.”

Jeter Jadeveon Clowney Jersey for Sale turns turns back clock with three-RBI night

BAL@NYY: Jeter ties Gwynn with two-run double to left

NEW YORK — As he begins the final regular-season home series of his career, Derek Jeter is rolling the clock back to his first full year in the Majors. The mantra of that 1996 team was “we play today, we win today,” and if the Yankees want to keep this show going, that’s exactly what they’ll need to keep doing.

Jeter enjoyed his first three-RBI game since 2012 and Michael Pineda turned in his most dominant start in pinstripes, teaming with three relievers to hold the Orioles to just one hit in a 5-0 victory on Monday at Yankee Stadium, marking the Yankees’ fifth win in their last six contests.

“I see it as, we’ve got to win a game tomorrow. That’s it,” Jeter said. “I don’t complicate things. The only thing we can control is our game tomorrow, so we need to come here and we need to win games. We’ve dug ourselves a hole, obviously. We need to win. That’s the only thing we can control.”

Needing help even if they are able to Men’s Nike South Carolina Gamecocks Garnet Jadeveon Clowney Authentic Black Football Jersey win all of their remaining games, the Yankees remain four games behind the Royals in the American League Wild Card chase. New York’s number for elimination is any combination of three Royals victories and Yankees losses.

“I really believe we have to pretty much win out, but you never know,” manager Joe Girardi said. “Strange things happen in sports. We’ve seen it. … It’s obviously tougher when you’re chasing more than one team, but the teams we’re chasing have had their struggles, too, and you never know.”

Receiving standing ovations for each of his at-bats this homestand, Jeter seems to have been fueled by the positive energy. He extended his hitting streak to six games with a two-run double to left field off Baltimore starter Wei-Yin Chen in the fifth inning and also contributed a run-scoring groundout, Men’s Nike South Carolina Gamecocks Garnet Jadeveon Clowney Authentic Football Jersey Red and is now 9-for-20 (.450) on the homestand.

“I never said I didn’t think I couldn’t play anymore,” Jeter said. “This is the time for me to call it a career after this season. Sometimes things are difficult, sometimes they come a little bit easier. Not easy, but they come a little easier at times.”

Jose Pirela, the franchise-record 57th player used in a game by the Yankees this season, turned in a notable Major League debut by blasting a run-scoring triple off Chen in his first plate appearance, part of a two-hit performance for the 24-year-old prospect.

“I am so excited today,” Pirela said. “When I see the lineup, I feel so excited. I try to enjoy this moment, enjoy for the rest of my life and play in the big leagues.”

That was enough support for Pineda, who has looked strong in most of his eight starts since returning from the disabled list in August. He had all of his pitches working against a Baltimore squad that, even with the loss, locked up home-field advantage for their AL Division Series.

“I’m very happy for coming back and help my team,” Pineda said. “It’s very important for me to help my team every five days when I take the mound, and I’m very happy because I love pitching.”

Pineda retired the first 13 batters he faced before J.J. Hardy singled to left field with one out in the fifth inning. Pineda then retired the next nine batters he faced before issuing a one-out walk to Christian Walker in the eighth, finishing up his performance with a season-high eight strikeouts.

“He’s been pitching well for a while, he’s not just pitching on us,” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. “Just another thing they’ve been counting on Men’s Nike South Carolina Gamecocks Garnet Jadeveon Clowney White Football Jersey Authentic this year that they’ve been missing. Jadeveon Clowney South Carolina Gamecocks Jersey It just gives you a reminder of how good he is.”

Chen permitted four runs (two earned) over six innings, scattering six hits and playing a supporting role as Jeter recorded his first three-RBI game since Sept. 9, 2012, also against the Orioles.

Chase Headley rounded out scoring in the eighth with a one-out homer that landed on the netting covering Monument Park in center field, Headley’s fifth homer in a Yankees uniform.

Girardi called upon Shawn Kelley for three outs, making two calls to the bullpen to guard the five-run lead in the ninth as Rich Hill and David Phelps Jadeveon Clowney Jersey also saw mound time.

“You continue to play hard and you continue to fight until you’re out of games. That’s all you can do,” Jeter said. “I’m well aware of the situation that we’re in, but the only thing we can control is the games that we’re playing. It was a good win for us today and we need to come out and win tomorrow.”

Shields, Royals aim Garrett Graham Texans Jersey for Sale to to rebound in playoff chase

Ace-off: Scherzer, Shields meet for Central supremacy

The most important series to date for the Royals and Tigers continues on Saturday afternoon in a matchup of aces between Kansas City’s James Shields against Detroit’s Max Scherzer.

In Friday night’s lopsided opener, Justin Verlander dazzled over 7 1/3 innings and the Tigers’ offense banged out 19 hits in a 10-1 win.

The victory put Detroit 1 1/2 games ahead of Kansas City in the American League Central race. The Tigers lead the season series, 12-5.

“There’s a different type of intensity when you’re playing the Tigers, they’ve got the best of us this Garrett Graham Jersey year in certain games, but we played them tough,” Royals designated hitter Billy Butler said. “Whenever you play the Tigers it always is [intense], this matchup’s no different than that first series that we played earlier this year.”

The Athletics’ 3-1 win on Friday dropped the Royals out of Garrett Graham Texans Jersey for Sale the first Wild Card spot, a position they maintained for one day. Kansas City leads the Mariners by only a half-game for the second Wild Card after the Mariners also won Mens Nike Houston Texans 88 Garrett Graham Elite Navy Blue Team Color Jersey on Friday.

Shields has been Garrett Graham Jersey Cheap spectacular in September. He began the month with a pair of scoreless performances, blanking the Yankees for 8 1/3 innings Mens Nike Houston Texans 88 Garrett Graham Elite Battle Red Alternate Jersey on Sept. 5, before holding Detroit to two hits Garrett Graham Nike Elite Jersey in seven innings on Sept. 10. Shields took a step back last Monday, allowing 10 hits and three runs to the White Sox, but he did enough to keep the Royals in the game in an eventual 4-3 victory.

Shields’ postseason experience with the Rays could come into play in Saturday’s game, which, despite not being a playoff game, will likely resemble one with the raucous environment and what’s at stake for both teams.

“I’ve pitched in quite a bit of games like this, obviously I’ve got some playoff experience and World Series experience, and things like that,” Shields said. “I’m excited to pitch and I’m excited to be in this position that we’re in right now. Hopefully we can create something special around here.”

Scherzer procured his 16th win of the season against the Royals on Sept. 9, allowing one run in 6 1/3 innings of a 4-2 victory. The right-hander enters Saturday on a late-season slide with a 4.46 ERA in his last six starts.

Royals: Fresh faces see action
Down by 10 runs at the start of the sixth inning on Friday, Royals manager Ned Yost gave a number of his starters a respite.

Alex Gordon, Lorenzo Cain, Salvador Perez and Omar Infante were lifted in the top of the sixth, with the hopes that these integral players would come back rejuvenated for Saturday’s afternoon contest.

Into the game came Jarrod Dyson (center field), Carlos Peguero (right field), Johnny Giavotella (second) and Erik Kratz (catcher).

Jayson Nix took over at shortstop for Alcides Escobar in the next frame.

Tigers: Bats are lively
Detroit churned out 19 hits and 10 runs in its series-opening win over Kansas City.

The production was spread throughout the order. All nine starters collected at least one hit, with Ian Kinsler (3-for-5, homer, three RBIs) and J.D. Martinez (3-for-4, double) leading the way.

Detroit’s potent offense, which has averaged 6.1 runs over the last seven games, was last blanked on Sept. 10 in the previous meeting against Shields.

Worth noting
• The 19-hit outburst in Friday’s series opener was the fourth-best output of the season for the Tigers. They collected a season-high 22 hits on Aug. 10, and 20 hits on Sept. 1 and July 19. This was their third 19-hit game.

• Royals outfielder Nori Aoki collected a pair of hits on Friday and is hitting .813 (13-for-16) in his last four games.

Walk-off Men’s Nike Houston Texans 58 Brooks Reed Elite Away White Jersey in in 13th keeps Cards 2 1/2 games up

MIL@STL: Cruz lines a walk-off single in the 13th

ST. LOUIS — After months of lamenting how little instant replay has benefited his club, manager Mike Matheny watched it turn a game — and, potentially, a division race — in the Cardinals’ favor on Thursday night.

An overturned call extended the eighth inning long enough for the Cardinals to tie a game of attrition they would then win with Tony Cruz‘s walk-off single in the 13th. The 3-2 victory, the longest Brooks Reed Jersey Cheap game (in innings) for the Cardinals this season, was a deflating blow to the playoff hopes of the Brewers, who Men’s Nike Houston Texans 58 Brooks Reed Elite Navy Blue Team Color Jersey went from four outs away from a win to six back in the division race. Since the Pirates wrapped up a sweep over the Red Sox, the Cardinals needed this win in order to retain their 2 1/2-game National League Central lead.

With nine games remaining, their magic Men’s Nike Houston Texans 58 Brooks Reed 10th Anniversary Elite Battle Red Alternate Jersey number for a postseason berth has been reduced to four.

“You don’t want to scoreboard watch, but it goes on, especially at this time of the year,” Cruz said after his second career walk-off hit. “We know what’s at stake.”

The Cardinals’ on-again, off-again offense was all the latter until awaking in the eighth. Held to three singles by Kyle Lohse through seven innings, the Cardinals tallied their fourth with Oscar Taveras‘ leadoff hit in the eighth. Lohse was relieved by Jonathan Broxton, who allowed a two-out walk to Matt Carpenter and an RBI single by Jon Jay that pulled the Cardinals to within one after first baseman Mark Reynolds, forgetting how many outs were in the inning, didn’t try for a double play on A.J. Pierzynski‘s Brooks Reed Women’s Jersey grounder.

“It was an easy double-play ball, especially with Pierzynski running,” Reynolds said. “I just thought there were two outs.”

Matt Holliday followed with a slow roller up the middle that resulted in a bang-bang play at first. Holliday, diving into the base, was called out by umpire Fieldin Culbreth. Matheny immediately asked for a review, which clearly showed Holliday beating the throw. The call was overturned, though Carpenter, who had sprinted home on the play, had to return to third.

Matt Adams then drew a full-count walk to force Carpenter home.

“In a game like that, any little thing is huge,” Holliday said. “Would I have been safe standing up or sliding? I don’t know. It felt like a desperate act. I wasn’t thinking about it. I just did it.”

The Cardinals wasted a leadoff double in the ninth and then tiptoed precariously through the next three innings. Pat Neshek retired Jonathan Lucroy and Aramis Ramirez to strand runners on the corners in the 10th. Carlos Martinez struck out Carlos Gomez with the bases full to end the 11th and Ryan Braun with a runner in scoring position to close the 12th. Sam Freeman pitched a drama-free 13th.

That bought time for the Cardinals’ offense to eventually reemerge. Holliday sparked the game-winning Men’s Nike Houston Texans 58 Brooks Reed Elite Away White Jersey rally by opening the 13th with a single off right-hander Jimmy Nelson. Three batters later, Cruz, who had entered the game to catch in the 10th, slapped the game-winning single up the middle.

It was yet another one-run win for the Cardinals, who have now won 29 of the 51 such games they’ve played. They have eight walk-off victories.

“Just being engaged in the game the entire time and being ready,” Matheny said of Cruz, who entered the game having taken just two at-bats for the Cardinals since Aug. 27. “What a great night for Tony Cruz. What a great night for our club.”

Continued strong pitching helped the Cardinals win a series in which they scored only seven runs. After Shelby Miller covered the first six innings, six relievers combined for seven scoreless. As a unit, the starters have now gone seven straight games allowing one run or none.

“We’ve been very clear from the expectation at the beginning of the season that we’re only going to be as good as our starting pitching is going to be,” Matheny said. “We hope that the other components are there to complement our pitching. But it all begins Brooks Reed Jersey with our starters going out there.”

Miller matched Lohse early, breezing through three perfect innings on 30 pitches. He retired the first two batters in the fourth, as well, before three consecutive hits by Milwaukee dented the scoreboard. The Brewers added to the lead in the fifth, an inning unnecessarily complicated when Miller sailed a throw into center on an attempt at a forceout.

Miller finished off his outing by retiring the side in the sixth, though he took a ball off his right shin during the inning, which made it an easy decision for Matheny to pull him at the end of the frame. Miller had thrown just 82 pitches. With his fourth September start in the books, Miller has limited opponents to three runs (two earned) in 26 innings.

He watched the ending from the video room and seconds before had asked video coordinator Chad Blair how many walk-off hits Cruz had in his career.

“After this,” Blair answered, “at least one.”

The two then celebrated inside the clubhouse while the rest of the team streamed from the dugout onto the field.

“With my shin, I took that one off,” Miller joked, before adding, “We’ll have more.”

Royals miss chance despite plethora Nolan Ryan Jersey of of pitchers

CWS@KC: Aoki hits single up the middle to plate run

KANSAS CITY — Long game? No problem if you win. Long game? Agonizingly slow and painful if you lose. That was the Royals’ fate Tuesday night, as they lost the longest nine-inning game in their history.

It took them 4 hours and 16 minutes to lose, 7-5, to the Chicago White Sox, with 28,904 fans streaming into Kauffman Stadium in hopes of seeing more pennant race drama. There was no magical comeback this time.

“Oh, man. What a long game. Way too long,” said Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar.

Way too long if you lose. Especially when first-place Detroit had lost at Minnesota and there was a chance to close the gap in the American League Central to a half-game. Instead, the Royals remained 1 1/2 behind the Tigers.

In the AL Wild Card race, the Royals are the leading team for the second spot — one game Nolan Ryan Texas Rangers Jersey behind Oakland and one game ahead of Seattle.

With just 12 games left (including a suspended game), Royals manager Ned Yost departed from his usual bullpen formula, using Kelvin Herrera and Nolan Ryan Jersey Angels Wade Davis earlier than normal. It didn’t work, and both relievers had their long scoreless streaks end in the White Sox’s decisive three-run seventh inning.

“Just trying to find a way to win a ballgame,” Yost said. “The days are countin’ down, and we’re just trying to find a way to win a game.”

The successful formula has been: Herrera in the seventh inning, Davis in the eighth inning and Greg Holland (when he’s been healthy) in the ninth. Usually, too, they come in at the top of the inning. But on Tuesday night, Yost altered it a bit.

The score was 4-4 in the sixth inning when rookie Brandon Finnegan had two outs with one runner on base. Yost opted to bring in Herrera, Rainbow Houston Astros Authentic Nolan Ryan Mitchell and Ness Orange Cooperstown Jersey who walked a batter and then got the third out.

The Royals scored a run in the sixth — Escobar singled, stole second base and raced Nolan Ryan Jersey Astros home on Nori Aoki‘s single — one of his four hits — for a 5-4 lead.

But then Herrera gave up two singles, to Josh Phegley and Adam Eaton (one of his four hits), to start the seventh. Yost was asked if perhaps the unaccustomed long wait between innings affected Herrera.

“It quite possibly could have,” Yost said. “I couldn’t believe it. I looked up in the eighth inning or ninth inning and saw it was 11 [o’clock].”

Herrera got a force for the first out, and with runners at the corners, Davis was waved into the fray. No Nolan Ryan Rangers Jersey problem on his part.

“I was perfectly OK Nolan Ryan Authentic Jersey with that,” Davis said. “I was comfortable, confident the whole time. I just didn’t make the pitches I needed to make to keep the game where it was, and it ended up costing us some runs.”

Facing dangerous Jose Abreu, Davis walked the slugger on a 3-2 pitch to load the bases.

“We just wanted to make pitches that were very competitive and nothing he could get extended on and hit a ball out of the ballpark,” Davis said. “So I was OK with the walk right there.”

But he wasn’t OK with what happened next. Conor Gillaspie lined a three-run triple into the right-center-field gap.

“The [triple] was a good pitch to hit. The other ones, I had no chance at even touching them,” Gillaspie said. “Guys make mistakes and you have to take advantage of it. He’s got the best reliever stuff of anybody in the game, in my opinion.”

Davis wasn’t happy with his pitches, though.

“That whole at-bat, I just didn’t make the pitches I needed to make to get out of that inning, and that put us in a bad spot,” he said.

Yes, because this time the Royals couldn’t generate anything like the footloose magic that gave them a walk-off victory in Monday night’s series opener.

Two of the runs were charged to Herrera and one to Davis, so the two longest scoreless streaks going in the Major Leagues were ended. Davis had gone 31 2/3 innings without giving up a run, and Herrera was right behind at 30 2/3. Both streaks started on June 27.

Davis said both of them were prepared for a change in their routine down the stretch.

“We knew that situation could occur,” Davis said. “I knew when Nolan Ryan Jersey Kel went back out that there could be a chance I would be in that inning, and I was fully ready to go in.”

As it happened, the Royals never did get to Holland, now recovered from a tight triceps and ready to go. But they did use nine pitchers, a club record for a nine-inning game.

Right-hander Liam Hendriks started for the Royals in place of Danny Duffy and was pulled with the bases loaded and nobody out in the fourth inning. He was charged with four runs and seven hits.

“I needed to throw my pitches with a little more authority. I was tentative with some of those pitches, and it showed,” Hendriks said. “I mean, they took some good pitches and they swung at my bad ones and hit them well.”

That was just the start of what would be a historically long evening for the Royals.

Roark’s Personalized Houston Texans Uniform effort effort clinches NL East crown for Nats

WSH@ATL: Nationals clinch the 2014 NL East division

ATLANTA — The Nationals will be playing baseball in October. They won their second National League East title in three seasons by blanking the Braves, 3-0, at Turner Field on Tuesday night.

“We are so proud of this organization,” said Ted Lerner, managing principal owner of the Nationals. “Watching them clinch their second NL East division championship in three years means so much to our fans, our city and our family. [General manager] Mike Rizzo and [manager] Matt Williams should be commended for building and leading a championship club.

“Tonight, we celebrate this milestone but realize that there is still work to do and goals to accomplish. We are looking forward to the possibilities that lie ahead.”

There was champagne and beer all over the locker room. There was Rizzo crediting his scouts and player-development people for the team’s success. There was Bryce Harper wearing a fireman’s helmet, spraying champagne and beer all over the locker room. What can one Personalized Houston Texans Jersey say about Williams? Even during the celebration, he was calm and refused to look ahead to the postseason. He would like to get home-field advantage before the regular season comes to an end.

“It’s important,” Williams said about home-field advantage.”We’ll give everybody a breather. We have some guys that are limping around a little bit, so we’ll try to give them some breaks here and there. But we still want to compete. We want to stay as sharp as possible. That’s a challenge. So we’ll work it out starting tomorrow. We’ll see where we can go.”

In his first year as manager, Williams saw major players such as Harper, Ryan Zimmerman and Wilson Ramos miss significant time because of injuries. But the Nationals are now 12 1/2 games ahead of the Braves entering Wednesday’s action.

“I’m not surprised [that we won big], because they played well and they worked hard,” Williams said. “They do the things right on the field that allowed us a chance to win every day. For everybody that was lost and everybody that continues to miss time, like Zim, we’ll work hard to get him back, we try to compensate for him and everybody that has been out for us this year.

“They have that mindset going in. But they try to win every night. They don’t get beyond that. It’s about tonight and tonight’s game. Tomorrow will be about tomorrow. I’m proud that they Custom Texans Jersey have gone about it that way and persevered.”

To win the NL East, the Nationals finally showed they can beat the Braves. After losing seven of the first eight games, Washington won seven Custom Women’s Texans Jersey out of the next 10 games. Clutch hitting was the reason for the turnaround for Washington, and it happened in the sixth inning Tuesday.

Shortstop Ian Desmond, a player drafted by the franchise when it was still the Expos in 2004, helped put the champagne on ice in the sixth. Braves right-hander Aaron Harang was on the mound when Jayson Werth started the inning with a walk. After Adam LaRoche struck out looking, Desmond Customized Houston Texans Jersey for Sale came to the plate and hit a 2-2 slider over the left-field wall to give Washington a two-run lead.

In his previous two at-bats, Desmond struck out twice.

“I tried to keep my mind focused on the next AB, continue to work hard. I know good things are going to come,” Desmond said.

In the eighth inning, it was Desmond who scored the third run on a wild pitch by reliever David Carpenter.

Right-hander Tanner Roark (14-10) knew what was at stake and he said that he was extra nervous. He was outstanding, though. He pitched seven shutout innings, allowed five hits and struck out four batters. The Braves did not have a runner in scoring position against him.

Roark couldn’t help but think where he was 15 months ago. He was in the Minor Leagues, pitching for Triple-A Syracuse, trying to make a name for himself as a reliever.

“It’s has been amazing road, and now we are the NL East champs,” Roark said. “It’s nothing I have ever fathomed. We played hard and we won. That’s the type of team that we have.”

The Buy Cheap Customized Texans Jersey last two innings proved to be easy for Nationals relievers Tyler Clippard and Drew Storen, who blanked the Braves the rest Customized Texans Shirts of the way, with Storen picking up his seventh save of the season.

“You’ve got to congratulate them on winning the division,” Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “You’ve got to tip your hat, they’ve had a solid year. Good for Matt Williams and his coaching staff and the Washington Nationals. Yeah, you never want anybody celebrating on your field. But they did it professionally, and I didn’t expect anything less from that organization.”

According to ESPN, Tuesday marked the third time since 1969 that two MLB teams from the same metro area clinched a division title — the Orioles wrapped up the American League East in Baltimore — on the same day. The last time it happened was in 2004, when the Angels Personalized Houston Texans Uniform and Dodgers clinched.

Werth said it was great to bounce back from last season, but he wants that World Series ring.

“This is just one step. We have a long way to go. We still have something to play for during the regular season. We can enjoy the moment and celebrate, set up our rotation for the postseason,” Werth said. “Home-field [advantage] is important, but it’s not the end-all, be-all. We have a long way to go, whether we Custom Texans Jersey Houston have home field or not.”
